Introduction
When we first returned from our vacation, we had hoped to produce some sort of video presentation from all of the pictures and video that we had taken. We did a little editing of the more than eight hours of video that we had, and boiled it down to a two hour travelogue. But we were both amateurs, and it really was a rather poor production.
Neither of us had any real experience behind a video camera.
We then tried to develop a web site, to document our adventure, but the results were similar.
We did have a web site online for several months, but it was pretty primitive.
I hope this doesn’t sound too much like excuse making, but neither of us had any experience in developing web sites.
So now, four years later, I have finally found a little free time to document our vacation. And this effort has boiled down to little more than a collection of emails that we sent to friends, and some related pictures.
When I reviewed some of the emails while compiling this collection, I noticed the rather poor spelling, and bad grammar that really jumps off the page. But then I remembered the circumstances that existed when some of these emails were written.
Just a few were written while the boat was actually underway. Most were written while we were at anchor somewhere enjoying a cold refreshment. And a number of them were composed and written at the keyboard of a pc in some internet café. Reading through them years later brought back memories that made me laugh.
And so, I decided to leave them just as they were sent, with no corrections. Most of them are readable still, with all of the poor spelling and bad grammar. In some places where additional explanation is needed, I have added some notes.
Pam wrote the emails while we were voyaging south, and I wrote the emails, after we had turned around and headed north. Not only is there a noticeable difference in writing style, but there is also a difference in the way emails are identified. Some are identified by our location at the time of writing. And some are identified by date.
Once again, in an effort to present the emails and notes as they were written, I have left the identification of each individual email as it was originally. I know that in some cases it may be confusing. Hey, it was confusing to me when I tried to re-read some of them. But what would you expect from a couple of amateur writers on a twenty eight foot sailboat?
Well anyway, here are the emails and notes from our trip, along with some of the pictures that have survived.
I hope you enjoy reading through these emails as much as I did when I put them all together.
